The Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo is currently going through a change process and is striving to become a leading academic institution in Nigeria. As technology-aided learning has become common place, library service has become a major strategic component of this change initiative.
The Polytechnic is seeking to recruit a Chief Librarian who will lead the reform of library services in the Polytechnic.

Job Description:
Reporting to the Rector, the Chief Librarian will be responsible for the overall management of Library services, collections, and resources, with particular emphasis on planning, coordinating, and supporting the activities of the Library, and managing the resources allocated to it in accordance with the institutional strategic plan.
The successful candidate will bring a record of excellent leadership including strong communication, team-building, and strategic planning skills. The candidate will have experience working through change, resolving conflict, and participating & leading in teams. Skills should include project and time management abilities, including the ability to function effectively in an environment where multiple projects, tasks and initiatives are in various stages of development and implementation. Experience developing budgets and expertise in expenditure controls are also necessary.
Additionally, the successful applicant will be strongly client-focused and possess a supportive and forward-looking attitude with the abilityto work effectively in a complex environment. Knowledge of and experience with current principles, practices and procedures related to the operations of library services in a large tertiary institution are essential.
Educational Requirements:
Successful candidate must possess:
*. A Master's degree in Library/Information Sciencesor in a related discipline
*. Minimum of 10 years experience in a managementrole using an integrated library system
*. Extensive knowledge of library automation and information technology in an academic environment
*. Demonstrated experience leading and implementing change including developing new strategies, policies, and procedures
*. Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service orientation and enthusiasm for public service.
