Background
The Democratic Governance for Development (DGD) project is managed by UNDP in support of elections and more broadly, the deepening of democracy in Nigeria. It is funded with contributions from The European Union, the UK Department for International Development (DfID), UNDP, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the KoreanInternational Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The project duration covers the period 2010-2015.

It aims to consolidate and advance democratic governance and accountability in Nigeria to achieve the country’s stated development priorities and outcomes as specified in the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) namely: improvements in accountable governance in accordance with the rule of law and in response to public demand, in the key areas of elections,justice, and anti-corruption. An integral, cross-cutting aspect is the promotion of gender equality and women’sempowerment for sustainabledemocracy and development.
These objectives are pursued through six distinct and inter-related programming components:
1. Strengthening of the National Assembly;
2. Strengthening of Political Parties;
3. Improvement of the Electoral Process;
4. Increased Capacity and Performance of Civil Society;
5. Reinforcing the role of the media;
6. Empowerment of Women.
The Consultant(s) will support the DGD/CSO transitional work plan –specifically the documentation and mapping of CSO partners and non-partners programming relevant to DGD’s primary objectives of supporting NASS, INEC, political parties and deepening democracy in Nigeria.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

*. Demonstrates integrity by modeling the UN’s values and ethical standards;
*. Promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of UNDP;
*. Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;
*. Treats all people fairly without favoritism.
CSO documentation:
*. Excellent work experience in engaging civil society organizations in the areas of civic education, advocacy, legislative reform, gender and youth;
*. Ability to lead strategic planning, results-based management and reporting;
*. Ability to work with minimal supervision;
*. Ability to lead formulation and evaluation of development programmes and projects;
*. Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude;
*. Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills;
*. Builds strong relationships with clients and external actors;
*. Computer skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
